Details
we have a number of Korean War Veterans here in Bedford and Bedfordshire, and this year marks the 70th Anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that brought about the ceasefire in the war on the Korean peninsula in July 1953.
A big national commemoration is taking place in London on the day itself, Thursday 27th July; however, on the following Sunday, 30th July, we will be having a short Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial down on the Embankment at 3.00 pm. This is being organised jointly by Bedfordshire County and Bedford & District Branch of the Legion. A copy of the poster that will be going around the town is attached.
I was wondering if Hospital Radio Bedford might be interested in covering the event. It will be a short service, conducted by Rev Rachel Simons, the Associate Rector at St Peter’s, to include prayers, a reading, and an Act of Remembrance to include the Last Post/Two Minutes Silence/Reveille which will be followed by the laying of wreaths led by the Mayor.
I understand from my contacts at the British Korean Veterans Association that they are planning to live stream the Service to former Bedfordshire BKVA branch members now living in Singapore.
