Mark Time
When I played my first record as a DJ, it was to support the guy I was roadie’ing for and he told me I needed a “stage name”; as my dear uncle Charlie used to call me Mark Time from when I was knee high to a grass hopper, I adopted that and have used it ever since.
That first gig was way back in 1972 at Bedford Rugby club and after 2 years of humping vast amounts of sound and lighting gear for very little pay and only ever being the “support” guy I decided to break out on my own and do it for myself. After 10 years and starting my own electronics business, getting married and all that stuff,  I “retired” from DJ’ing, apart from doing friends parties and the like.
Always made up mix tapes, and then cd’s and then on line playlists!!
Then I saw a post on Facebook from HRB asking if anyone was interested being a presenter.
I applied and was interviewed, where one of the first questions I was asked was what would my show be about.  Now as it happens I had given that some thought and I wanted to embrace the vast cultural variances in the wider Bedford community. Did you know that there are over 106 nationalities represented by employment in the Bedfordshire NHS Trust? So I now have a “world music” slot embedded in the show; one of my earlier listeners complained there was no classical music, which given that the title of my show is Timeless Classics needed addressing, so I now have a classical music slot on the show.
So for me, my involvement with HRB is a way I can connect with the very community I live in, and give something back, whether it be by playing a piece of music, talking about an upcoming event, supporting anybody within the NHS, or helping out running the radio station.
And most of all having some fun with great people along the way.
My shows will be eclectic at least; so feel free to add to my repertoire with the odd request and let’s enjoy the ride together!!
